Spirit Lead Family Memeber
The Spirit filled family member I have chosen for this assignment in my Aunty Tracey. She is a fantastic lady who had raised four children on her own, since the eldest was six and youngest several months old. While also volunteering her time at the South Colac Football and Netball Club, Colac Basketball Association, Colac West Primary and Colac Secondary Collage. Tracy lives her life helping other in her local community and never expects or excepts anything in return.
Tracey Lee Tann was born on the 23rd of April, 1964 in the rural areas of Colac in Lavers Hill, Beech Forest.
Tracey’s early years where shaped by her parents (my grandparents) Norman Tann and Margret Tann. Tracey was brought up on a potato farm and was the oldest sister of 3 other sisters; Libby, Julie (my mum) and Leanne. Life growing up on the farm really shaped Tracey’s values and way of life. Tracey’s early years involved helping her mother around the house and helping take care of her younger sisters. Tracey was raised to be kind to all and treat all with the same respect that she wish to be shown.
Tracey Tann regularly volunteers at her local Football and Netball club, South Colac as a umpire, coach, canteen manager, Club treasurer, Netball treasurer, Netball manager, Netball umpiring mentor and is also apart of the club PFFA. Tracey also coaches and umpires several local basketball teams as well as being a regular volunteer helping out at the club. Tracey also volunteered her time by going around to the local primary and secondary school looking for lice; students and staff new her as the “Knit Lady”. Tracey also regular volunteered her time at both local primary and secondary school canteens in Colac for 15 years.
Tracey continues to help the people of her local community not just as a parent who helps coach her children’s sporting teams or help at their school but because she enjoys devoting her time to help others in her community. Tracey still coaches and umpires junior Netball and Basketball teams even though her children are all 18 years above.
The consequences for Tracey’s actions may not be life changing or effect the world but they do help the local sporting community of Colac and they have an impact on every single child that she had coached or mentored over many years. Tracey has been a member of South Colac Football Netball Club since 1995 and has coached many teams and umpired hundreds or games over her time with the club.
Tracey shows and draws upon many gifts / fruits of the Holy Spirit when she is volunteering her time to coach and mentor these children of the community. Some of these gifts and fruits are:
- Knowledge
- Understanding
- Patience
- Kindness
- Goodness
- Joy
- Wisdom
Tracey does all of this coaching and mentoring as she believes that sport is one of the best ways for child and adults to socialize with others in their local community. Tracey expresses how important it is to be active and how even more important it is to have fun, while being active. Tracey also finds it’s a great way for some of her younger players to connect with other adults who they are able to talk to about any problems or issues they are facing and don't feel comfortable to talk about to others.
Tracey's response to when I asked why she volunteers so much time to her local community:
“ Why not, theirs nothing better I can do with my time”
Tracey's response when she was asked why she helps so many people and what does she get out of volunteering her time:
“ We shouldn’t help people to get something in return, we should help others because we wont to. “
Tracey draws her inspiration from her mother who spent a lot of her time in the local community helping at various different clubs and facilities, giving a helping hand for many years.
The local community of Colas has a better sport community because of all the work Tracey has done developing, coaching, mentoring and managing many different sport clubs and teams. If Tracey had not put in all the work she has over the years sporting teams would not have the money or donations to afford new equipment, clothing, and facilities. Children may not have received their lunches from their canteen and some children may have been running around the playground spreading head lice.
Even though Tracey is not a Catholic or driven to spread the word of the Lord; Tracey is a lovely ordinary mother, who doesn't spend her days trying to improve the world, but spends her time helping others around her. Helping her local community bring everyone of all ages together to a place where they can have fun, be active and give them all the best opportunities so they can be the best they can.

Passages from the GosspelKindness - Luke 6:35
"But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High; for He Himself is kind to ungrateful and evil men. " Wisdom - John 8:32 And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance. |
